Handling “Bad Thoughts” during Meditation

Q: I’m running into a lot of bad thoughts which I’m dissolving as we speak. My brain feels very heavy and tight and I can’t sleep. What do I do??

A: You just sit and watch the bad thoughts but don’t be involved with them, don’t try to suppress them. Simply watch while you also direct awareness to feelings.

Waking Up has nothing to do with thoughts and everything to do with feelings and emotions.

There are no “bad” or “good” thoughts apart from your interpretation and emotional response to these thoughts.

The only reason you think those thoughts are “bad” is because of the emotional triggers associated with them.

When you truly investigate the feelings and stay with them until they dissolve by feeling them out completely, the links those feelings to thoughts will be unhooked.

Feelings and body sensations made a pack with thoughts. Both of them co-create and reinforce each other’s existence.

But since you can’t fight a thought with more thoughts, you CAN go into feelings and dissolve them, and the only way to exhaust something is to accept, love, and allow them to feel themselves through completely without any resistance. And without trying to change or be in control of anything.

You don’t have to let go of something physically, like ending a relationship, you only have to let go of someone or something in your own mind.

Once you’ve transcended and let go of the emotional component of thoughts, thoughts have nothing to feed on, so they eventually dissolve and the mind becomes very quiet.

And then you’ll see clearly that thoughts are just raw sensations no different from objects, the body, perception, world, etc.

The only reason why you think any thoughts or objects in the dreamscape are more or less “real”, “better”, or “worse”, than any others is your emotional attachments to them and the stories you tell about them. None of it is true.

This isn’t to say you lose the ability to feel things, feelings are just a part of life, but there is a difference between letting feels pass your hologram without a feeler/center/experiencer vs. holding on and identifying with certain feelings due to judgments you have about them.
